Marie Antoinette Loses Her Head
Marie Antoinette, queen of France and wife of the late King Louis XVI, is guillotined in Paris for treason. Born in Vienna, Austria, as the daughter of Austrian Archduchess Maria Theresa and Holy Roman Emperor Francis I, Marie Antoinette married Louis in 1770 to strengthen France’s alliance with its longtime enemy, Austria.
