Camera Description

The beautiful lake town of Ascona, seen in this live webcam, lies deep in the south of Switzerland, with Italy so close you can almost touch it. The town oozes Latin charm, as the webcam clearly reveals, with it's pastel villas and the placid, almost Mediterranean Lake Maggiore. The cam vista is rounded off to perfection with the soft green mountains of the Lepontine Alps.

Ascona was once a small fishing village, but was transformed by the arrival of artists, thinkers and radical politicians seeking a return to nature. They found it in the beautiful Monte Verit(just north of our travel cam) and Ascona's reputation as place of beauty and retreat was born. The town also boasts many cultural and artistic festivities reflecting it's heritage.

The climate of Ascona is the mildest in Switzerland, and the weather cam is often gifted with sunny vistas. However the hills and heat do attract storms, and lightening spectaculars are not uncommon on the cams!
